Abstract Reviews climate-landscape-lake interaction in high latitude environments, with reference to general effects of landscapes on lake ecosystems through factors such as geomorphology, lithology and solute transport, vegetation, and hydrology; and links between these properties and climate which result in set of mechanisms whereby climate change can have pronounced impacts on Antarctic lakes. Includes comments on anthropogenic effects in and around research stations; wide-ranging effects of climate- induced recession of glaciers and ice caps; marine connections of coastal lakes; permafrost effects and changes in depth of active layer; glacial retreat and changes in hydrology; dissolved organic matter; and biological cycles and biodiversity
