| Abstract | The International Polar Year 2007-2008 (IPY) is planned as an intense coordinated campaign of polar research, analysis and observations. Its aim is to further understand both physical and social elements in the polar regions, to study the polar regions' role in global climate processes, and to project research infrastructures for the future. The U.S. National Academies' Polar Research Board created the IPY Implementation Workshop Committee to conduct a workshop focused on promoting dialog between the National Academy of Sciences and federal agencies. This workshop was held on July 8-9, 2004 in Washington, DC attended by 47 federal agency representatives and scientists. This report presents an outline of the results of that workshop. (mte) |
