Abstract Analyses sequence of 33.3 kbp genomic fragment of crenarchaeote from 500 m deep picoplankton collected from waters of Antarctic Polar Front in Drake Passage, and compares its organization with those of other marine crenarchaeota from more superficial waters. Despite certain gene conservation, there was considerable gene shuffling when compared to all crenarchaeotal environmental clones available to date. Phylogenetic analyses of individual genes suggest existence of multiple horizontal gene transfer (HGT) events between archaeal kingdoms and also between the two prokaryotic domains.
