|Abstract:||A new species of Benthalbella, B. macropinna, was collected from the Scotia Sea by the Eltanin, using a 10-ft Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl. It is distinguished from other Benthalbella by its high anal ray count (35-37), low dorsal ray count (5-6), and anterior insertion of the dorsal fin, predorsal length 27.8 to 32.8% of standard length, which is 209 mm. The new species seems to have a circumpolar distribution between 48°13' and 66°08'S, similar to that of B. elongata. No male specimens of either species were found.|
